Liquid vs. Capsules vs. Powder: Why the Form of Cinnamon Matters

By Stabilicinn

Short answer: Ground cinnamon and cinnamon capsules have to be broken down in the digestive tract before their polyphenols can be released and absorbed. A liquid extract delivers those compounds already dissolved in a filtered, active form. According to Dr. Jayasena’s research, polyphenols from Stabilicinn are rapidly absorbed, up to 90–98% of the consumed dose, compared with 39–53% from powder in capsules.

Three common forms

Ground cinnamon (powder)

The spice in your kitchen: dried bark, ground fine. It’s easy to sprinkle on food, but the amount you get varies, and most ground cinnamon in North America is Cassia, which is high in coumarin. Powder also contains insoluble fiber and can contain volatile elements.

Capsules

Usually ground cinnamon powder (sometimes a dried extract) packed into a gelatin or plant shell. Capsules are convenient and tasteless, but they arrive in the stomach in an inactive form. First the capsule must dissolve or be broken down by enzymes to release the powder particles. Then the particles themselves must be broken down to release bioactive polyphenols. More steps mean lower effective absorption.

Liquid extract

Cinnamon bark processed with a solvent, in Stabilicinn’s case filtered water, to draw out its compounds, then filtered. Because it is liquified and filtered into an active form before you drink it, there is a single step: you drink it, and polyphenols are available to be absorbed directly.

Absorption + concentration

A higher concentration of Ceylon cinnamon in liquid format provides faster and stronger absorption than pills or powders, creating optimal potency. That’s the core idea behind Stabilicinn, and why Dr. Jayasena bio-engineered a precise process to produce a liquid extract that retains highly efficacious polyphenolic compounds.

Why “within 10 minutes”?

Our directions ask you to finish your 1 oz serving within 10 minutes, whether you drink it straight or mixed into a beverage. Taking the full serving at once maintains the effective concentration.

Choosing a form

  • For cooking and flavor: ground Ceylon cinnamon is ideal.
  • For a consistent daily routine: a measured liquid serving takes the guesswork out of how much you’re getting.
  • Whatever the form, check the species. For daily use, choose Ceylon cinnamon. Here’s why.
